Biography
Boaz Otieno Akech is a Kenyan musician popularly known as Jagingo, born in the village of Kanyadotto, Dhiwa location, in Homabay county on May 9, 1987. Boaz has grown and risen to be a world-renowned and globe-trotting musician. He grew up under the care of his parents, Manas Akech Bunde and Teresia Aoko Akech, in the village of Kanyadotto, where he started his education and dropped out in standard six to concentrate on, nurture, and hone his musical skills. Boaz takes his musical talent from his father, Manas, a musician and vocalist who sang and played a traditional musical instrument called Oporo, found among the Luo ethnic communities.
Boaz is an instrumentalist, vocalist, and percussionist who has performed for over a decade. He is an expert at playing traditional Luo musical instruments such as Orutu, Oporo, drumset, and keyboard. At the onset of his musical career, Boaz played with the renowned Kenge Kenge band. He performed alongside and shared a platform with famous musical legends like Suzanna Owiyo, Iddi Achieng, Owiny Sigoma, Makadem, and other top performers. Since 2003, Boaz has traveled and toured several countries in Africa, Europe, the US, and Asia to promote, share, and spread his musical talent to the world. Among the countries he has toured to share his music includes Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia (2011), Kigali, Rwanda (2012), Kampala, Uganda (2013), New York, USA (2014), Abu Dhabi, UAE(2015), Paris, France(2016), Madrid Spain (in 2017).
A devout man of faith, Boaz likes going to church, where he volunteers to play the piano and spends most of his time playing musical instruments and singing for relaxation
when lounging with friends or family.
